Real Fusion
Christian church in Rogers Park, Chicago, IL

This personal recommendation may be unusual in that this church is not exactly my cup of tea. I do not expect to be a member or regular participant.

I am however, very impressed with their style, ethos, sincerity, and leadership. This may be the church for you!

I am much stodgier in my expressions of faith. They tend toward open expression. I maintain personal decorum while in church. They are relaxed and communicative. I prefer my personal "space." They respect that in me, but share with each other more than my comfort level allows.

Tim and Chloe Steinke have created a Christian haven in Rogers Park (a district in Chicago) that is, in my opinion, better directed and focused than most other churches. Sundays, the congregation shares an evening meal just before launching into their worship service. The celebration begins with song, singing, rejoicing. The "teaching" portion of the church service, the "sermon." is apt to be a table discussion of some Christian principal (differing perspectives welcomed!) or a video on how to be in successful loving relationships.

They are small in number. Both times I visited there were fewer than twenty in attendance. They meet in a rented space in a Jewish Synagogue (5959 N. Sheridan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60660).

Without going so far as to share personal details, let me exclaim over their welcoming, allowing hospitality and their generous spirit. They are non-threatening, sincere, human, and open.
